Annual Budget
Arcata Fire is a single-purpose Special District, independent from the County of Humboldt and the City of Arcata; governed by a Board of Directors who are elected by the voters. As a Special District, funding can only be received through very specific mechanisms.
Presently, the District is funded from four primary sources:
- 40% from the ad valorem (property tax)
- 55% from the District's voter-approved initiatives2020 special tax and2006 benefit assessment
- 1% from other government funds
- 4% from charges for services
Annually, pursuant to Government Code Section 13895, the Arcata Fire District Board of Directors is required to adopt a final fiscal year budget, no later than October 1st, and make public the adoption of its budget. Additionally, Arcata Fire reviews its budget, mid-fiscal year to make any necessary adjustments for its revenues and expenses.
