How do I obtain a burn permit? Burn permits are issued by the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District (NCUAQMD), not the Fire District.
Do you install child safety seats? Unfortunately, the Arcata Fire District does not currently have anyone trained for car seat installations. However, there are a number of other agencies that are able to provide this service, locally, including other fire departments, the California Highway Patrol, and Humboldt County Public Health.
How can I get rid of my old fire extinguisher safely? Empty or expired fire extinguishers should be disposed of appropriately and safely. Arcata Fire District is not able to accept used or expired extinguishers.
Where can I dispose of expired or unused medications? There are a number of locations that are able to safely accept and dispose of prescription medications that have expired, are unused, or unwanted. This includes controlled substances, like prescription painkillers.

How do I sign up for CPR or first aid?The Arcata Volunteer Firefighters Association (AVFA) offers cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED), and First-Aid classes for lay rescuers. In these classes, students learn how to recognize the signs of a cardiac emergency, and how to sustain life with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation until emergency medical help can arrive. This is a skill anyone in the community can learn.
