Assistant Chief

THE POSITION:

The Assistant Chief holds a critical role within the management team of the fire district, operating under the direct guidance of the Fire Chief. With a focus on complex leadership and management tasks, the Assistant Chief is charged with planning, organizing, directing, staffing, a major division or programmatic section of the District, such as administration, operations, training, and maintenance. Beyond administrative duties, this role entails emergency response responsibilities as an operational responder and includes serving as a rotational Duty Chief, assuming a leadership position during specified duty periods. The Assistant Chief represents the Fire District on local and regional committees, fostering collaboration on pertinent issues and programs. In the absence of the Fire Chief, the Assistant Chief may act as the District executive. The Assistant Chief exercises both direct and indirect supervision over designated subordinate staff, which includes overseeing subordinate supervisors. This responsibility involves providing guidance, support, and management to ensure effective functioning and performance within the assigned team. The Assistant Chief plays a key role in leadership, maintaining organizational structure, and fostering a cohesive and productive working environment among the subordinate staff and supervisors.

Fire Captain

ANTICIPATED INTERVIEW JANUARY 17/18, 2024. 

THE POSITION:

Operating under the general direction of the Operations Assistant Chief or Duty officer, the Fire Captain plays a crucial role as part of a two-person team, serving as the daily shift supervisor at the designated fire station. In this capacity, the captain oversees and guides the assigned engineer, providing training, engaging in pre-incident planning, and supervising activities such as fire safety inspections, public education and equipment and facility maintenance. The crew operates on a 48/96 shift schedule, and the Fire Captain is part of the engine company that actively responds to a variety of emergencies. These emergencies include but are not limited to fires, medical incidents, hazardous material situations, technical rescues and other types of both emergency and non-emergency hazardous incidents. During these incidents, the Fire Captain assumes on-scene working supervision, collaborates with the incident commander to facilitate incident command and control, and ensures the implementation of appropriate measures to effectively manage the emergency and provide care for the sick and injured.

THE POSITION:

Provides responsible administrative, accounting, clerical, purchasing, personnel, payroll, and assistance to the Fire Chief and Chief Officers by carrying out the administrative functions of the District. Performs a wide range of clerical, reception and technical administrative support services including human resources, record keeping, review and disposal, as well as maintaining and processing financial records and transactions involving a variety of items in different formats. Serves as the official Clerk for the District Board of Directors. Performs other related duties as assigned. This is an “at-will” position.

Responds to emergency fire and medical calls by driving and operating fire apparatus or other vehicles, performing fire suppression duties, and performing medical pre-hospital procedures. Maintains facilities and equipment for maximum efficiency.  Performs other related duties as assigned.
