Fire Captain - 3 Positions

Serves as a fire station shift supervisor in an operational assignment. Supervises and directs the work of assigned subordinate Firefighters and Fire Engineers by providing training and pre-incident planning, and directing fire safety inspections, public education, and equipment and facility maintenance. Responds to fire, medical, hazardous material, technical rescues, and other types of emergency, non-emergency, and hazardous incidents and provides on-scene, working supervision for the incident commander to assist with incident command and control and manage the appropriate actions to control the emergency and care of the sick and injured. Performs assigned ancillary duties and special projects.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

Assistant Chief - 2 Positions

The Arcata Fire District intends to fill two Assistant Chief positions. One position will be assigned to Operations and the other to Training. The Operations Assistant Chief will oversee day to day activities of on-duty crews. The Training Assistant Chief will be responsible for the department's training program and will serve as the department safety officer.  Receiving administrative direction from the Chief, both
Assistant Chief roles will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, staffing, and controlling a major operating division and/or programmatic section of the District. The Assistant Chief is a leader in the District therefore, assisting the Chief with planning and implementing the strategic goals and objectives of the District, maintaining operational readiness, and managing special projects. Also, the Assistant Chief will have the responsibility to act in the absence of the Fire Chief as assigned.
